How it works
Transform — cofactor for carboxylase enzymes, including acetyl-CoA carboxylase, pyruvate carboxylase, and propionyl-CoA carboxylase, central to fatty-acid synthesis, gluconeogenesis, and branched-chain amino acid catabolism
Build — the acetyl-CoA carboxylase reaction is the first committed step in fatty-acid synthesis
Adapt — biotin covalently attaches to histone proteins, a form of chromatin modification relevant to gene expression
Exchange — absorption depends on the intestinal enzyme biotinidase releasing free biotin from dietary protein-bound biotin, and on a dedicated sodium-dependent multivitamin transporter (SMVT) shared with pantothenic acid, so very large biotin doses can theoretically blunt B5 absorption at that shared transporter
Honest note — high-dose biotin supplementation is a well-documented cause of falsely abnormal thyroid and cardiac troponin immunoassay lab results via biotin-streptavidin interference in the testing technology itself -- an important practical point worth knowing before ordering labs, separate from biotin's own physiology
Form matters
The same nutrient can be made in very different forms — and a study done on one form does not automatically apply to another. Methylcobalamin is not cyanocobalamin; magnesium glycinate is not magnesium oxide; a whole-food extract is not the synthetic isolate that was studied. Two things decide whether what is in the bottle behaves like the research: the exact form, and independent lab verification (a Certificate of Analysis) that the form and dose on the label are truly what is inside. Without a COA, you are trusting a label, not the science.
