How it works

  • Build — associated with collagen formation and bone matrix mineralization in observational and small mechanistic studies of connective tissue

  • Maintain — proposed to support skin, hair, and nail structural integrity through the same collagen-cross-linking mechanism, which is the basis for silica's inclusion in beauty-focused formulas -- human trial evidence for this specific cosmetic outcome is limited and mostly industry-sponsored

  • Exchange — absorbed mainly as orthosilicic acid, the only form the gut readily takes up -- most dietary silicon exists as poorly absorbed polymerized/colloidal silica, which is why supplement form matters for silicon specifically

  • Build — the proposed collagen mechanism involves silicon acting as a cross-linking or catalytic cofactor in collagen maturation, though the precise enzymatic role in humans -- unlike calcium's or vitamin C's role in bone/collagen -- has not been as rigorously characterized

Form matters

The same nutrient can be made in very different forms — and a study done on one form does not automatically apply to another. Methylcobalamin is not cyanocobalamin; magnesium glycinate is not magnesium oxide; a whole-food extract is not the synthetic isolate that was studied. Two things decide whether what is in the bottle behaves like the research: the exact form, and independent lab verification (a Certificate of Analysis) that the form and dose on the label are truly what is inside. Without a COA, you are trusting a label, not the science.
