How it works

  • Exchange — forms a thick, largely non-fermentable gel that slows gastric emptying and small-intestinal glucose/cholesterol absorption

  • Transform — only partially fermented compared with inulin or resistant starch, so it delivers less short-chain-fatty-acid yield relative to its bulk

  • Maintain — FDA-recognized qualified health-claim evidence for lowering LDL cholesterol and supporting glycemic control in type 2 diabetes, plus reliable improvement in stool frequency and consistency

  • Sense — psyllium's gel-forming viscosity depends on adequate co-ingested fluid -- taken with too little water it can form an overly thick mass, the mechanistic basis for the standard label instruction to take it with a full glass of water

Form matters

The same nutrient can be made in very different forms — and a study done on one form does not automatically apply to another. Methylcobalamin is not cyanocobalamin; magnesium glycinate is not magnesium oxide; a whole-food extract is not the synthetic isolate that was studied. Two things decide whether what is in the bottle behaves like the research: the exact form, and independent lab verification (a Certificate of Analysis) that the form and dose on the label are truly what is inside. Without a COA, you are trusting a label, not the science.
