ANTIOXIDANT

Pomegranate extract

Antioxidant — also: ellagitannins, pomegranate, pomegranate extract

One ingredient, seen the whole way through: what it is, how it works, the honest evidence, the form that matters, the systems it touches, and the studies behind it.

EmergingCell

Urolithin/mitophagy mechanism is an active and promising research area but is preclinical/early human-trial stage generally, and no finished-product trial exists for R2 Day or Nu Biome specifically, where the dose is part of an undisclosed proprietary blend. Structure/function only.

How it works

  • Transform — gut bacteria convert ellagitannins into urolithins, which are studied for supporting mitochondrial biogenesis and quality control

  • Maintain — antioxidant and anti-inflammatory polyphenol activity in vascular and gut tissue

  • Adapt — urolithin-driven mitophagy is a cellular stress-adaptation/cleanup pathway under active mechanistic research

  • Exchange — punicalagins and other ellagitannins are poorly absorbed intact -- the gut microbiome does the real metabolic work, converting them stepwise to urolithin A, the bioactive circulating metabolite, which is why individual response varies with a person's specific gut bacterial profile (people are classified into urolithin metabotypes A, B, or null)

  • Maintain — independent of the urolithin pathway, pomegranate polyphenols are studied for supporting endothelial nitric oxide availability and normal blood flow in small human trials

Form matters

The same nutrient can be made in very different forms — and a study done on one form does not automatically apply to another. Methylcobalamin is not cyanocobalamin; magnesium glycinate is not magnesium oxide; a whole-food extract is not the synthetic isolate that was studied. Two things decide whether what is in the bottle behaves like the research: the exact form, and independent lab verification (a Certificate of Analysis) that the form and dose on the label are truly what is inside. Without a COA, you are trusting a label, not the science.
