How it works

  • Transform — absorbed directly into the portal circulation rather than via lymphatic chylomicrons, and enter mitochondria without requiring the carnitine shuttle that long-chain fats need — making them rapidly oxidized and readily converted to ketone bodies in the liver

  • Exchange — unlike most dietary fats, MCTs are metabolized for fuel rather than incorporated into cell membranes, so they do not meaningfully change membrane fatty-acid composition

  • Process — the resulting ketone (beta-hydroxybutyrate) can cross the blood-brain barrier as an alternative fuel to glucose — the basis of MCT-based cognitive research in mild cognitive impairment and Alzheimer's

  • Sense — C8 (caprylic acid) is converted to ketones more readily and rapidly than C10 (capric acid) or longer MCTs, which is why some products are standardized to a higher C8 ratio specifically for a faster or larger ketone response rather than using generic 'MCT oil'

Form matters

The same nutrient can be made in very different forms — and a study done on one form does not automatically apply to another. Methylcobalamin is not cyanocobalamin; magnesium glycinate is not magnesium oxide; a whole-food extract is not the synthetic isolate that was studied. Two things decide whether what is in the bottle behaves like the research: the exact form, and independent lab verification (a Certificate of Analysis) that the form and dose on the label are truly what is inside. Without a COA, you are trusting a label, not the science.
