Build — supplies gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), a precursor elongated to dihydro-gamma-linolenic acid for incorporation into cell membrane phospholipids
Transform — DGLA feeds synthesis of series-1 prostaglandins involved in normal inflammatory-resolution signaling
Exchange — the enzyme that converts linoleic acid to GLA (delta-6-desaturase) is often rate-limiting and can be slowed by aging, high alcohol intake, or metabolic conditions, the core rationale for supplementing GLA directly rather than relying on the body's own conversion from dietary linoleic acid
Maintain — GLA-derived DGLA also competes with arachidonic acid for the same enzymes, proposed to shift the balance of downstream eicosanoid signaling -- a mechanism studied in skin and joint research alongside its role in series-1 prostaglandin synthesis
Form matters
The same nutrient can be made in very different forms — and a study done on one form does not automatically apply to another. Methylcobalamin is not cyanocobalamin; magnesium glycinate is not magnesium oxide; a whole-food extract is not the synthetic isolate that was studied. Two things decide whether what is in the bottle behaves like the research: the exact form, and independent lab verification (a Certificate of Analysis) that the form and dose on the label are truly what is inside. Without a COA, you are trusting a label, not the science.
