Caffeine

Whole-food / Other — also: caffeine, caffeine anhydrous

One ingredient, seen the whole way through: what it is, how it works, the honest evidence, the form that matters, the systems it touches, and the studies behind it.

EstablishedCell

MYND360 Sharp Focus's 100mg is a well-established alertness dose (Lieberman 1987). Nu Biome adds another 50mg — a combined 150mg before coffee or tea, worth flagging against Night Time/sleep goals. Structure/function only.

How it works

  • Transform — promotes lipolysis/fatty-acid mobilization and modestly raises metabolic rate

  • Process — adenosine-receptor antagonism increases alertness and sustained attention at dose-matched levels

  • Perceive — shortens simple reaction time and improves vigilance in dose-matched human trials

  • Exchange — rapidly and almost completely absorbed from the gut and crosses the blood-brain barrier within minutes, with a half-life (roughly 3-7 hours in most adults) that varies several-fold based on CYP1A2 genotype -- 'fast' and 'slow' metabolizers process the same dose very differently

  • Regulate — at the receptor level, caffeine's adenosine-blocking action also raises circulating cortisol and catecholamines modestly, the mechanistic reason high intake late in the day can carry over into evening nervous-system arousal -- directly relevant to the Nu Biome/Night Time timing flag already noted

Form matters

The same nutrient can be made in very different forms — and a study done on one form does not automatically apply to another. Methylcobalamin is not cyanocobalamin; magnesium glycinate is not magnesium oxide; a whole-food extract is not the synthetic isolate that was studied. Two things decide whether what is in the bottle behaves like the research: the exact form, and independent lab verification (a Certificate of Analysis) that the form and dose on the label are truly what is inside. Without a COA, you are trusting a label, not the science.
